Nitrus Brio was a shy, relatively modest and easy to manipulate fellow who worked alongside Dr Neo Cortex in his early world domination schemes. Brio didn't care much about 'world domination', he was only in it for the science. Nitrus specialized in mutagen transformation science and the like, and he knew that he was more intelligent than Neo himself. But due to his unstable nature, he's very easily intimidated by others and he stutters whenever he's nervous or excited.
But when he must defend himself, he can temporarily transform into a wicked beast of some sort, depending on the type of potion he drinks!
He was a longtime friend of Neo and N.Gin's since their days at the Academy of Evil. He considered Neo his best friend when they were young, and he saw that Dr Cortex was never able to perfect the Evolvo-ray. So instead, Dr Brio created his own take on it, and it was a great success. Even though he considered Cortex a friend, he was often pushed around by him and forced to do his evil duties. Things got worse as they got older - and madder too, for that matter...
Even so, he stuck by Cortex through all these years out of a mixture of loyalty & intimidation but then one day, he became tired of Cortex taking credit for all his hard work and talent. Brio decided to part ways from Cortex after Crash Bandicoot defeated the duo.
Tired of being a pushover, he turned against Cortex and evolved some of his own minions, and later worked with Crash to blow up his giant 'Cortex Vortex' in space.
Dr Brio currently resides at the old Cortex Castle, maintaining and keeping it in tip top shape (and keeping it Neo-propaganda free!). He becomes a lot more confident in himself and stutters far less than he used to. Working away with his science as he always does, even creating the odd anthro or two out of boredom and coming up with new potions for transformation. He lets all his evolved animals do what they want to do, so they settle and live around the Castle or outside of it on either island. As long as they don't pester him!
But then a 'stranger' by the name of Dr Nefarious Tropy shows up one day... to push him around like Neo once did. The more Tropy pushed his luck with him, the more madder Brio grew from the inside...
