Ripper roo was Dr Cortex's first mutant he created without a helping hand from Dr Nitrus Brio like he usually did. Thus, the kangaroo came out a bit undesirable. But things got worse when Dr Cortex immediately shoved the roo into the freshly constructed Cortex Vortex... thus Ripper roo was born.
The Cortex Vortex was created to brainwash 'freshly evolved' mutants to follow Cortex's every command, but it didn't work too well most of the time. The Vortex had warped Ripper roo into a psychotic, violent and unpredictable beast. Even turning the once peaceful kangaroo from herbivore to carnivore in the process. Cortex had to act quickly to keep him under control, with the help from one of his strongest mutants to restrain and force him into a straight-jacket. Although his powerful clawed feet were still a threat to those who weren't careful around him.
Ripper roo is also extremely resistant against explosives and he in fact, enjoys seeing nitros and TNT's explode in front of him. Even if they have the potential to harm him.
While Ripper roo did follow Cortex's commands (just barely) he failed to defeat Crash bandicoot as he made his way through X.Treme Island. Ripper roo was immediately discarded by Dr Cortex soon after, leaving him to live in the wild on his own. Ripper settled himself into an ancient temple at the highest waterfall on X.Treme Island, but nearly experienced death after slipping into the water, being unable to swim... but a mysterious inhabitant of the island came to his aid and saved his hide.
He began to calm down afterwards, although he still remained mentally unstable around strangers.
What most people dont realize is that Ripper roo is a lot more cleaver than he appears to be... while he cannot speak, he can understand speech. He also loves to read books and dress up as Einstein in his free time.
