Rillaroo was the second hybrid mutant Dr Cortex created, but was immediately considered a failure. Due to his lack of aggression, lack of immense size & strength (that a gorilla usually has) and lack of agility (that a kangaroo also usually has). But worse of all, at least to Dr Neo Cortex, was his lack of speech. Rillaroo was evolved without the ability to speak vocally. So Cortex immediately discarded him as a stupid monkey and abandoned him.
He was far from stupid though, still able to understand speech from others just fine, although he could only communicate with sign language and gorilla grunts. But due to his extremely shy nature, It wasn't long until some of the more cruel minions began to pick on him and force him into circus attire, at least until Crunch stepped in and stopped the bullying... Rillaroo then ended up being an assistant with Dr N.Gin, helping out with maintaining machinery and fixing the odd mech now and then. He was a quick learner, far from being a 'stupid monkey' Cortex labeled him as. He got on well with N.Gin, Crunch and some of the other minions in that part of the Space Station.
