Stanley was created a short time after Dr Cortex parted ways with Nitrus Brio to pursue in continuing world domination schemes in outer space. With the absence of Brio, he had to come up with ways to evolve his old mutants and Stanley happened to be one of his first 'solo' subjects, well away from Brio's influence. Cortex was rather unimpressed with him upon first glance due to his small and fragile stature, which leaves Stanley feeling rather sour about the other more 'impressive' minions gaining more attention than he alone.
And so he proves himself to the madman that he can be of good use by unleashing his hidden potential - his cleaver tinkering skills with machinery and electronics. He soon becomes a demolitions expert of the team, trying his best to become a proud known member of the Cortex commandos. His loyalty to Cortex is unmatched by most commandos, and while he isn't very threatening, he thinks of other ways to make his mark on those who oppose him... even at the cost of friendship and alliances with other fellow minions.
